ARE YOU SMOOTHIE SAVVY? After experimenting for a couple weeks with many different Smoothie combos, I have compiled a lot of valuable info! What a great way to treat yourself & not feel left out during Blizzard season. Here are some of the things I’ve learned this week… also thanks to the WW Staff for all the other tips I’ve picked up over time!
TO BE SMOOTHIE SAVVY:
*Use water or milk – milk tastes great but if you want to save on the POINTS use water. Taste great when you doctor them up!
*Use 3/4 cup sparkling soda with 1/4 to 1/3 cup Plain Fat-Free yogurt…
*You can use any diet soda (Root Beer or Cream Soda, Orange, etc. for the liquid, and/or include the yogurt)…
*Use any FF or low-fat flavored yogurts…
*Use new WW Mix-Ins or Crystal Lite singles…
*Use at least 5 ice cubes, you can drink it. Use 10 and it will be thicker…if your blender really liquefies then keep adding ice to get the texture you like.
*Use Splenda, FF Cool Whip (I like to add this after it’s blended), or any extracts you like (mint, coconut, banana, almond, etc.)
* Some people pour leftover coffee into their ice cube trays & blend them in with their Smoothies.
*V-8 diet splash makes an awsome peaches and cream or orange smoothie
*Get creative – add in Reduced Fat Oreos, 1 or 2-point bars, frozen or fresh fruit!
*Most Smoothie mixes are 1 or 2 points for the mix, depending on flavor…add your points for ingredients you add. For example:
1 packet Vanilla = 1 point
1 cup milk = 2 points
1 cup strawberries = 1 point
TOTAL: 4 points
If you use diet soda or water it is less points; you are basically counting 1 point for the Smoothie mix.
*Smoothies are CORE but limited to once a day! Remember to count points for any non-Core items that you add.
*Smoothies are a delicious way to get in your 2 milk servings/day!

From Virginia Mueller, WW Staff Site – WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A WEIGHT WATCHER SMOOTHIE?
EVERY BOX OF SMOOTHIES COMES WITH A PACKET OF RECIPES, BUT YOU CAN USE THEM
IN OTHER WAYS. HERE ARE SOME I LIKE:
USE 1 C WATER AND WHIP UP A SMOOTHIE IN THE BLENDER. ADD 1/2 PACKETAGE FF
SUGAR FREE PUDDING MIX AND WHIP IT UNTIL THICK TO MAKE A RICH DRINK. USE
THE WHOLE PACKAGE OF PUDDING AND ADD 1/4 C WATER AND EAT IT LIKE PUDDING.
PACK OF PUDDING IS 2 POINTS, SMOOTHIE 1 OR 2 DEPENDING ON FLAVOR. I LIKE
WHITE CHOCOLATE PUDDING AND/OR PISTACHIO WITH VANILLA SMOOTHIE, CHOCOLATE
FUDGE WITH CHOCOLATE SMOOTHIE, AND BUTTERSCOTCH WITH CARAMEL CAPPUCCINO.
JELLO AND SMOOTHIE
TRY IT BEFORE YOU GAG!
DISSOLVE LEMON, OR ORANGE JELLO IN 1/4 C BOILING WATER. ADD IT TO 3/4 C
WARM WATER AND ORANGE SMOOTHIE AND MIX. A WARM SMOOTHIE DRINK.
YOU CAN ALSO USE ANY FLAVOR JELLO DISSOLVED IN 1/2 C BOILING WATER AND MIXED
WITH 1 CUP FF YOGURT TO MAKE A RICH SATISFYING DRINK. GOOD FOR THE NAILS
AND BONES. I USE STRAWBERRY YOGURT WITH STRAWBERRY JELLO, ORANGE WITH
ORANGE, PEACH WITH PEACH OR PLAIN OR VANILLA WITH WHATEVER.
USE SUGAR FREE SODA INSTEAD OF WATER TO MAKE A SMOOTHIE-ROOT BEER WITH
VANILLA, CREAM SODA WITH CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA, ORANGE OR LEMON LIME WITH
ORANGE-YOU GET THE IDEA.
Peach Smoothie with a can of Diet Rite Raspberry soda and ice. Mix in blender. Yummy! - Thanks Shroobs, Staff Site!
From khodgin, Staff Site: One idea for smoothies that I didn't see posted -for most blenders with a base that screws on, the base will fit on a mason jar (not mayo or any other "off brands" as far as I know. )I put my mix, water or milk, and stir with a wire whisk to mix them together. Then add fruit and 5 ice cubes. Screw on the base and blade - blend on high; remove the base & blade; stick your water mug straw in and there is only 1 container to clean up when you are through. I have an Oster blender and it works very well. Love the vanilla smoothie mixed with 2 TBS of lemon SF/FF pudding mix and 8 oz. of milk!
Thanks Piglette from Staff Site for the following two recipes:
PINA COLADA (another version)
Vanilla smoothie Mix
8 oz. skim milk
1/2 cup pineapple chunks
1 tsp. coconut extract
tray of ice
Blend together till smooth.
4 points entire pitcher
(RUM is optional)
PEACHES AND CREAM
Peaches and Cream Smoothie Mix
8 oz. skim milk
1/2 cup diced peaches
1 tsp. vanilla extract
tray of ice
Blend together until smooth.
4 points entire pitcher
From Carol, Staff Site - THANK YOU! "If you like the Chunky Monkey, you might like my version of Cherries Garcia. Add 3/4 cup frozen dark sweet cherries (mine are 1 pt.) to a Chocolate Smoothie mix, 1 cup skim milk and have a fabulous treat for 4 points. I get in my two milk products and 1 and a half of my fruit/veggie servings for only four points. It also reminds me of a chocolate covered cherry. Enjoy!
