I want to take this opportunity to share how powerful these events can be. I am doing a leg of the Minot YMCA Marathon as a relay in a couple weeks. There are 5 of us who joined together - none of us are pro-runners, we are all planning to run/walk this event. Our main goal is to set a goal for ourselves and finish. Last year our team ran in honor of a friend who was battling breast cancer - she is doing really well this year. This year we decided to run to support some gals up in the Carpio area who are both battling cancer (Debi & Hope). The beauty of having something to train for gives us an opportunity to lift up these women & their families/children in prayer during our training time. Exercise is an amazing time to think about our awesome God, His creation, and the power of prayer in our lives. Based on this, we named our team this year "Run to Him" - a reminder that nothing is too big for God and we need to rely on Him for all our needs. By simply dedicating your exercise time to extra prayers for the people around you, including our country, our leaders - EVERYTHING - think of what a difference you are making in your own life and the lives of others. I want to encourage you to do something - if you don't choose to do an event think about increasing your activity level or trying something different but challenge yourself mentally, physically, and most of all spiritually. I think you'll find everything falls into place so much easier when you "Run to Him". ~Cherie

Have you walked through Oak Park on a warm spring evening or the trail between Wee Links and Souris Valley Golf Course? Or how about the Arboretum walk in northwest Minot? Walking is heralded as the best, easiest and most affordable way to get our daily exercise. Minot has a wide variety of beautiful and safe areas to take that daily walk.

Minot Area Team Wellness is planning a Walk Minot series of community walks this spring and summer. Walk Minot is designed to create awareness of Minot’s trail system, promote physical activity and encourage citizens to get outside and enjoy our beautiful city!

The series of Walk Minot events will be kicked off by the 2nd annual Doc Walk. The Doc Walk, sponsored by Dr. Dawn Mattern is planned for Wednesday, May 5, 7:00pm at Oak Park. The following 14 Thursdays will feature a community walk in a variety of places and will highlight the options walkers have within the city of Minot.

Each weekly Walk Minot event will begin at 7:00 pm and be lead by a community leader. Walkers do not need to register ahead of time and there is no fee to join, just show up and walk with the group! Each walk will last about an hour, will be informal, family friendly and at an easy pace.

A detailed schedule of each walk is listed below, you can also find details at our Walk Minot page on Facebook. Become a fan an get updates!

Minot Area Team Wellness coalition is a local group concerned about the health and wellness of our citizens. Our motto is Moving More,

Eating Smarter.

If you have any questions about Walk Minot please contact NDSU Extension in Ward County at 857-6450.
